Concert Review- Avery Sunshine Sony Hall NYC 1/14/26

Avery Sunshine (Sony Hall 1/14/26)-
R&B singer Avery Sunshine is on my Mount Rushmore of living female vocalists along with Patti LaBelle, Chaka Khan, and Stephanie Mills.
Yes, I rank her THAT highly and having seen “everyone” and being jaded- that’s high praise indeed.
So, in case you don’t know this great indie Artist, let me explain.
I was having a really, really bad day yesterday. My wife was rushing to Korean Airlines to buy a last-minute ticket to go see her 93-year-old mother on her deathbed.
Then Korean Airlines bled us for $2,977 for last-minute tickets despite us telling them the sad scenario. Totally mercenary. I staggered home on mass transportation after little sleep to care for our two cats.
So, having a ticket in advance, I wasn’t feeling my best when I walked into the venue.
But let me tell you, Avery Sunshine is like a ray of sunshine.
Within moments, the sheer joy, talent, and charisma this woman has lifted me up.
I just NEEDED to hear the message she kept repeating. We WILL get through these hard times.
The band was tight, and her booming voice had the audience totally engaged.
And after a generous 100 or so minutes ending with rousing gospel numbers, I walked out feeling better than when I walked in.
And isn’t that what it’s really about?
I try to see her every time she hits town. She’s like a living, breathing, preaching, singing happy pill.
A joyful noise, if you will.
Thank you for being here when I most needed this.
Bravo.
